Accessing the Archive
Our collections are open to the public by appointment. If you would like to make an appointment to visit the archive, please call the National Railway Museum on (08) 8341 1690 or contact the Curator – Collections.
Research Services
We are always happy to help with research related to rail in Australia. If you have a request about the railways, please contact the Archives Manager.
As we are a fully self-funded, volunteer operated organisation we do charge for our services to assist us with our research, conservation and restoration work. Our initial research to locate information is free and we provide a quote before charges are made. Payments can be made by credit/debit card, cheque, by direct deposit, by Paypal or at the Bookshop.
For more information about our services and charges please download How The Museum Can Help You.
Railway Personnel Records
While the Museum does have some records relating to railway employees, we recommend that you contact the State Records of South Australia or the State Library of South Australia who have more complete personnel records in their collections. For a general overview on researching Australian railway employees please see the Railway Employees Leaflet.
Copies of Photographs and Documents
If there is an image or document in our collection that you would like a copy of, you can complete a Research and Photographic Request Form. Our charges can be found in our Research and Photographic Charges Quote Sheet. You will also need to complete a Reproduction Agreement Form and submit full payment before we can provide your item. A summary of reproduction charges can be found in How The Museum Can Help You.
