Railway 200
2025 is a special year marking the 200th anniversary of the opening of the Stockton & Darlington Railway in England, opened on September 27, 1825.
It was the World’s first steam hauled public railway, and a series of events are being held around Britain and elsewhere under the Railway 200 banner to celebrate 200 years of the birth of the modern railway.
Born in Britain, rail transport quickly spread across the globe, heralding a revolution that would connect places, people, communities, and ideas, and ultimately help transform the world we live in today.
While the main focus of the celebrations has been in the UK, the National Railway Museum is playing a small part by producing a You Tube video highlighting the various museum exhibits that were built in Britain.
